Music Video: Any Other Heart

published 7 Jun 2011 & updated 20 Jul 2011 in Cinematography tagged w/ Music Videos

Second music video in two weeks to be released.

Produced by Michael Dalton and directed by Drew Russ. We built the set in one day and filmed the next. Brent Martin, who gaffed for me, just couldn’t stop working and thus earned the title “Beast”.

Any Other Heart by Go Radio. Get on iTunes.

Music Video: These Lights

This is the first-released official music video I have ever shot. Really happy with the way things turned out. Director, Aaron Chewning, and I had a blast producing it for The Less.

Aaron came up with the concept of fans carrying lamps to a impromptu concert. We had to solve a couple of challenges in the process, the main one being how do to power the lamps. I devised a system to use 12v DC halogen bulbs wired to batteries that attached to their belt loops. And in creating battery-powered light source close to the actors, it gave us a tremendous amount of freedom to move quickly and frame the shots how we wanted them. We got off 30 or so shots, in 4 locations across Atlanta, all in less than 10 hours and we never really felt too rushed.

Not too bad for something funded by Kickstarter.

Window Frames Music Video

I was the DP on this short unofficial music video. It was Rebecca Hodges Advanced Lighting project. This is one of the first projects I have had full unrestricted access to as many lights and as much gear as I wanted as well as a full grip team to help set it all up. All in all, it was a great project and turned out really well. It was shot on my 5D Mark II with prime lenses. There was no color correction in post (that was part of the project).
